Litquake is San Francisco's Literary Festival. Started in 1999, it's become the largest independent literary festival on the West Coast with upwards of 25,000 attendees, 125 local and national partners, and 200+ events annually. In 2020, the community we serve became majority-BIPOC (authors & attendees) after years of concerted effort to emphasize BIPOC writers and thinkers in our programming, hire BIPOC curators, and partner with BIPOC arts organizations. As Deputy Director, I have my hand in all programming and operations, as well as heading up all donor communications and grant writing.
Here's what I'm most proud of from time so far with Litquake:
- Created Litquake Out Loud, a curatorial program that features the Bay's BIPOC & LGBTQ+ writers.
- Helped Kidquake reach 4 times as many public school K-5 students
- Nearly doubled Litquake's budget
- Steer Litquake's DEI efforts
- Curated and produced events with Donald Antrim, Rabih Alameddine, C Pam Zhang, Brandon Hobson, Tommy Orange, Phil Klay, and many, many more lovely authors.
